Lord Auckland (George Eden 1st Earl Auckland) 1784-1849 free frank envelope front entirely in the hand of Lord Auckland and signed 'Auckland'.

English Whig politician and colonial administrator. Three times First Lord of the Admiralty and also served as Governor General of India between 1836 and 1842.

The city of Auckland, New Zealand and the Auckland suburb of Mt Eden were named after him.

During early Victorian times, members of parliament and members of the House of Lords were permitted free postage on the proviso that they signed the envelope, thus the term 'free frank'.
