Commissioned in 2008 from prominent Wellington artist Ken Hunt, this stunning oil portrait of Lord Nelson measures 74cm x 64cm. It has been professionally framed with a gold rope design frame in keeping with Nelson's naval background.
I am reluctant to sell this portrait, as it has been a feature in my home since 2008. As I am now fast approaching my three score and ten, I am parting with my historic document collection of forty years and this portrait was commissioned to support a number of Nelson related framed items in the collection.
This item would look great hanging in a boardroom or entrance foyer eg Nelson Council, Navy Dept etc.
Although the portrait has been based on a popular depiction of Lord Nelson by Sir William Beechey in 1800, it is unique in that Nelson's decorations, which are blurred and rather indistinct in the original, have been identified and have been painted in detail by Hunt. As well, the overpainting of Nelson's hair in the original has been left out.
Ken Hunt's portraits are eagerly sought after and as at seven years ago, command an average NZ$12K price-tag.
This would not only be a stunning addition to a home or business, but would also be an asset.
