The second wife of Argentine President Juan Peron and First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her early death from cancer, aged 33, in 1952.
A radio and screen actress before her marriage in 1945, she became a powerful political influence and worked tirelessly on bettering the lives of women and also the poor. She was idolized by the people and on her death was given a state funeral, normally only reserved for heads of state.
In 1978, Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber based the popular musical 'Evita' on the life of Eva Peron.
