Lord Nelson (1758-1805) - Victor over the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. This stunning item comprises the close of a letter signed on 'HM Ship Victory, Madalena Island, 14 Feb 1804 (some 20 months before the engagement at Trafalgar). Nelson has signed in his left hand, (his right arm was amputated during a battle in 1797) -'Nelson & Bronte'.
Nelson was made the Count of Bronte after rescuing Ferdinand King of Naples who was under attack by the French in 1799.
This item came from the Ray Rawlins collection, who published the well known 'Guiness Book of World Autographs' in 1977.
In addition, the item includes a hair from the head of Lord Nelson, (from the Louis Mushro collection) plus a piece of the original oak deck from the 'Victory' which was repaired in the 1920s.
