Victor over the French at the Battle of the Nile in 1798 and also over the combined French & Spanish fleets at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.
Nelson's favourite ship was the 'Agamemnon' on which he served as captain from January 1793 for three years and three months. On the 'Agamemnon', Nelson saw considerable service in the Mediterranean.
This framed item measuring 48cm x 58cm, contains the close of a document entirely in Nelson's hand signed on the 'Agamemnon' on June 9th, 1796. Nelson has signed with his right hand which was amputated after he was shot in the elbow in a battle some time later. He learned to write with his left hand and his signature following this period looks quite different. This document has come from the collection of Ray Rawlin who published the 'Guiness Book of World Autographs'
In addition the item contains a small piece of hair from the head of Lord Nelson (from the acclaimed Louis Mushro collection) and a fragment of the original deck of the 'Victory' which underwent repairs in the 1920s.
