Eva (Evita) Peron

Eva (Evita) Peron (1919-1952) was the second wife of Argentine President Juan Peron and First Lady of Argentina from 1946 until her early death from cancer, aged 33, in 1952.

A radio & screen actress before her marriage in 1945, she became a powerful political influence and worked tirelessly on bettering the lives of women and also the poor.

She was idolized by the people & on her death was given a state funeral, normally only reserved for heads of state.

In 1978 Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber based the popular musical 'Evita' on the life of Evita Peron.
