St Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa)

This stunningly framed piece is so special as it contains an original letter on Missionaries of Charity letterhead personally signed by St Teresa of Calcutta.

Mother Teresa, as she was then, was the founder of the order of the Missionaries of Charity in 1950. Winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and the US Medal of Freedom in 1985, she was known as 'the Saint of the gutters' for her selfless devotion to caring for the poorest of the poor. 'I see God in every human being. When I wash the leper's wounds, I feel I am nursing the Lord Himself. Is it not a beautiful experience?"

It is well known that Mother Teresa made it a point of responding personally to those who had made a donation to the Missionaries of Charity. This is such a letter, addressed to a New Zealand doctor, dated 14 June, 1974. 'I am in receipt of your kind donation, for which please find enclosed herewith our Official Receipt. God reward you a hundredfold for your generous gift towards His Poor, our less fortunate brethren. I hope you received etc'

Canonised by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016, St Teresa of Calcutta, in death, inspires others to continue to demonstrate God's love for the least, the last and the lost of humanity.

The frame measures 62cm x 52cm.
