Born in New York City in 1904, physicist J Robert Oppenheimer served as Dirstor of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the development of the atomic bomb. Known as 'The Father of the Atomic Bomb' Oppenheimer died from cancer at the age of 62 in 1967.

Oppenheimer was at that time Director of the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, New Jersey.
