During its life, this item has been through two house fires and was thought to have been destroyed but fortunately survived.
Although difficult if not impossible to read, I believe it is part text, part cipher, which was in common use during the Elizabethan period and has been signed by Elizabeth. The signature is quite legible despite the smoke damage to the letter.
Comes with a letter from the previous owner who states he purchased the item from Charles Hamilton who was one of the world's foremost & respected autographic dealers based in New York.
The price reflects the condition of this piece as items signed by Elizabeth I normally demand tens of thousands of dollars.
Elizabeth I (1533-1603) Daughter of King Henry VIII & Anne Boleyn. Queen of England from 1558 until her death in 1603, Elizabeth's reign is perhaps the most colourful & splendid in English history.
