1st Viscount Montgomery of Alamein KG, GCB, DSO, PC, DL (1887 - 1976) Commanded the 8th Army in North Africa during WWII and routed Rommel's Africa Korps at the Battle of Alamein in 1942. Also commanded all Allied ground forces on D-Day (1944) and later received the German surrender in 1945.
