Typed letter on 'Margot Fonteyn' letterhead from the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden dated February 21st, 1955 to Miss Lloyd - 'Thank you and your Scholars so much for your telegram in Paris - it was very sweet of you all to think of me and to send me your good wishes. Yours sincerely', and signed in blue ink 'Margot Fonteyn de Arias'
Measuring 205mm x 155mm, the letter has a fold through the middle but otherwise is in an excellent condition.
Dame Margot Fonteyn (1919 - 1991) joined the Sadler's Wells Ballet ( later the Royal Ballet) in 1934 and later became one of the greatest ballerinas of the 20th century.A new partnership with Nureyev in the 1960s extended her performing career. She married Roberto Emilio Arias in 1955 and was created a dame in 1956.
